As you have unfortunately found your way here to our SRP PETS™ pet bereavement page, we genuinely hope that you may find some of the following words helpful or possibly find at least some comfort in reading one of these soothing pet loss poems during the rough/tough times of losing a beloved pet. It may also help to know that you are not alone, that others have been through or are still going through (although never totally the same) a very similar situation to what you are going through right now and have also grieved very deeply too. We also thought how thoughtful these human beings were to take the time to leave some comforting words behind for other bereaved souls to read and we would like to share some with you below right now.
Firstly, we would like to share with you and invite you to read a beautiful rendition of perhaps one of the most famous and beloved pet loss poems of all times.
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies who has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water, and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; his eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow bridge together…..
I’M STILL HERE
Friend, please don’t mourn for me I’m still here, though you don’t see. I’m right by your side each night and day and within your heart, I long to stay.
My body is gone but I’m always near. I’m everything you feel, see or hear. My spirit is free, but I’ll never depart as long as you keep me alive in your heart.
I’ll never wander out of your sight – I’m the brightest star on a summer’s night. I’ll never be beyond your reach – I’m the warm moist sand when you’re at the beach.
I’m the colorful leaves when fall comes around and the pure white snow that blankets the ground. I’m the beautiful flowers of which you’re so fond. The clear cool water in a quiet pond.
I’m the first bright blossom you’ll see in the spring. The first warm raindrop that April will bring. I’m the first ray of light when the sun starts to shine, and you’ll see that the face in the moon shine is mine.
When you start thinking there’s no one to love you, you can talk to me through the lord up above you. I’ll whisper my answer through the leaves on the trees, and you’ll feel my presence in the soft summer breeze.
I’m the hot salty tears that flow when you weep and the beautiful dreams that come while you sleep. I’m the smile you see on a baby’s face. Just look for me friend, I’m every place!
WE HAVE A SECRET
We have a secret, you and I that no one else shall know, for who but I can see you lie each night in fire glow?
And who but I can reach my hand before we go to bed and feel the living warmth of you and touch your silken head?
And only I walk woodland paths and see ahead of me, your small form racing with the wind so young again, and free.
And only I can see you swim in every brook I pass and when I call, no one but I can see the bending grass.
THE LAST BATTLE
If it should be that I grow frail and weak and pain should keep me from my sleep, then will you do what must be done, for this ~~ the last battle ~~ can’t be won.
You will be sad I understand, but don’t let grief then stay your hand, for on this day, more than the rest, your love and friendship must stand the test.
We have had so many happy years, you wouldn’t want me to suffer so. When the time comes, please, let me go. Take me to where to my needs they’ll tend.
Only, stay with me till the end and hold me firm and speak to me until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you will agree, it is kindness you do to me. Although my tail its last has waved, from pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don’t grieve that it must be you who has to decide this thing to do; we’ve been so close ~~ we two ~~ these years, don’t let your heart hold any tears.
